With increasing cases of different overuse injuries like tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and gamer's/texter's thumb, we thought it was time give the hands and wrists some collective love and attention. Expanding our View
Expanding our View is a 3-part workshop that will open the door to a greater awareness of diversity, and an increase in inclusivity in our practices.
A wider range of body types, gender pronouns and movement abilities are emerging in media and fashion. Let's get curious about the ways we work and the assumptions we make. It can be so easy to fall into patterns: cutting and pasting the bio we wrote years ago, parroting the terms for the body we learned back when we first completed our training, or assuming that clients or students will have the same bodies and experiences as our own. If someone is searching the web for a body professional, and they come upon our website, will they feel confident that they will be treated with kindness and respect? Will their needs be met, and will they feel safe while working with us? How can we welcome them?
This journey of expansion will take place in three parts.
The first part will focus on refreshing our view of diversity and inclusivity, with the guidance of a certified trainer.
The second part takes place at home, on your own time.
And the third part is a chance to share learnings and ask questions in a community of like-minded professionals.
The workshops are a safe and private space for bodyworkers and movement teachers, without recording. No question is ever stupid, nor inappropriate. We welcome new professionals, and are curious to hear how your education has prepared you for this diverse world, and where there are still gaps to be filled.
Part 1: Sunday, February 20th, 15:00 - 17:00 CET/ 9:00 - 11:00 EST, on Zoom.
2 hours of information and discussion with facilitator Leonie Schäfer, co-hosted by Jaina & Rebecca. An invitation to explore your positions and positioning around the topics of:
gender vs. sex
dis_abilities
body types
We hope to empower you to make your professional offers and practices more inclusive.
We aim to give you the tools to understand how discrimination works, and specific knowledge regarding the topics of the day. There will be time for self-inquiry and reflection.
Leonie’s training approach is centered around curiosity and holding space for more than one truth.
Part 2: Solo Work
2 hour block of time, of your choosing
Look at your website, lesson plan, or whatever you feel is appropriate from your business materials that you share with the public. Using the insights you gained from Part 1, find at least one place that could be more inclusive. Make the change(s)! Write down notes/take a screenshot to be shared in Part 3, including any questions or uncertainties, or just a celebration of your growth!
Part 3: Sunday, March 13th, 15:00 - 17:00 CET/ 9:00 - 11:00 EST, on Zoom
60-90 minutes of sharing, questions, feedback and celebration with facilitators Jaina & Rebecca.
